crystal face is a term from crystallography.
If a crystal can grow unhindered, then it trains even exterior surfaces (the crystal faces), parallel to the atomic planes of the crystal run.One uses these atomic planes therefore also for the description of the crystal faces (Miller indices).
Surfaces and edges, which limit a crystal, determine its morphology.
