the district half is a district in the west of the Land of the Federal Republic Saxonia-Anhalt. Neighbour circles are in the north the districts of Lower Saxony Wolfenbüttel and Helmstedt as well as on-board circle, in the southeast the district Quedlinburg, in the south the district who Niger desert and in the west the district of Lower Saxony Goslar.

the district was formed for 1816 with education of the Prussian province Saxonia; 1825became the district Osterwieck part of the district half city.
