the district Kelheim is the westernmost district of the governmental district Lower Bavaria in Bavaria. Neighbour circles are in the north andThe east the district Regensburg, in the southeast the district land hat, in the south the district freesing, in the west the districts Pfaff yards to the Ilm and calibrate-corrode and in the northwest the district new market in the Upper Palatinate.

history
the current district Kelheim developed with the Bavarian district reform 1972 from the union of the districts Kelheim, Main castle and Riedenburg. Some few municipalities of the former districts Main castle and Riedenburg were assigned to the neighboring country circles.
