the district Lindau (Bodensee) is a district in the southwestthe governmental district Swabia in Bavaria. Neighbour circles are in the north the districts of Baden-Wuerttemberg Bodensee circle and Ravensburg, in the east the district uppergeneral-outer and in the south the Austrian Land of the Federal Republic Vorarlberg. Furthermore the circle in the southwest has a natural border toBank of the Bodensee, because of which the district town Lindau is on an island in the lake.

Geografie
the districtconsists in the southwest of the banks of the upper lake, the eastern and deepest part of the Bodensee. On an island in the lake is the old part of town of the district town Lindau (Bodensee). To the west bath Schachen (a quarter of Lindau) follows, water castle (Bodensee) and nun horn. The bank places are coined/shaped apart from the tourism also of the fishery and the cultivation of wine, which are operated particularly in nun horn and at the Hoyerberg with Lindau. After northeast a hill country with Endmoränen and Drumlins follows.The eastern part is coined/shaped by that westgeneral-outer. The ridge of the Pfänders runs in northnortheast direction, the heights lies usually over 700 - 800 m and. NN. Eastward further parallel to the Pfänderrücken running mountain combs follow. They are geologicalparticularly by tertiary Nagelfluh - rocks coined/shaped. Highest collection is the Kalzhofener height with 1118 M. By the substantial differences in height there are clear climatic differences in the district: While at the Bodensee already the fruit trees flower and to temperatures over 25 °C reachedbecome, one can find still meter-high snow in the westgeneral-outer. At the Pfänderrücken it comes to upward gradient rains, therefore there the yearly precipitation is highest (clearly over 1.000 mm/a), while it is drier in the west and the east (around 800 mm/a). That westgeneral-outer is by an above average duration of sunshine (until 2,000 hours per year) characterized.

the district was, as the remaining Bodensee area and general-outer settle, in before-historical time of the Celts. From this time still celtic escape castles however hardly exist,are still received.15 v. Chr. conquered the Romans the area and incorporated it the province Rätien . In Lindau existed a Roman threw, archaeological finds are however rare in the circle area. Starting from that 3. Century came it to increased ideasof Alemannen, which settled the area after the end of the Roman realm. The Christianisierung took place in particular via pc. Gallus and pc. Magnus. The first documentary mentions of earlymedieval settlements concern water castle (Bodensee) (784), lime tree mountain in the general-outer (857), Opfenbach (872), Weiler in the general-outer (894). The area was predominant under the rule of the monastery pc. Gallen, parts belonged to the monastery Mehrerau with Bregenz. The railroad line Lindau - Augsburg, which formed long time the verkehrliche backbone of the circle, was projected starting from 1844.In its process the then largest railway embankment of the world developed with Röthenbach. The opening took place 1853, thus was attached the district to the Bavarian railway system, Bavaria received the connection to the sea route into Switzerland. With the line Lindau Bregenz(1872 were connected the circle area also by course with Austria. 1874 were furnished the railway train ferry - to line Lindau Romanshorn. Weiler was attached by a secondary line 1897 to the main route with Röthenbach. Only 1899 took place the gap conclusion Friedrichshafen Wasserburg Lindau. 1901 followed thoseLocal railway Röthenbach - lime tree mountain - Scheidegg (Scheidegger MOO chute).
1938 were renamed the office for district in district Lindau. After the Second World War the district area of the French zone of occupation was slammed shut and administered together with Württemberg, during the remainder Bayerns to the AmericanZone of occupation belonged. The district had thereby a privileged position, administrative boss was a circle president. The district Lindau was with three delegated in the advisory meeting Württembergs represented. The complete back arrangement of the district after Bavaria took place at the 1. September 1955. The district is by motorways with Munich and Northern Germany as well as thatwestern Bodensee area and Austria connected.
By the Bodensee ships the district is directly connected with Austria, Switzerland and Baden-Wuerttemberg.
