the district nine-churches is a district in the Saarland. It borders in the north on the district pc. Spiral, in the east to the Rhineland-Palatinian district Kusel, in the south to that Saarpfalz circle and to the greater Saarbruecken and in the west to the district Saarlouis.

the area of the today's district nine-churches came 1815 to the Viennese congress under Prussian administration. 1816 divided Prussia its provinces into governmental districts and circles. Thus the district Ottweiler developed within the governmental district Trier in the Rhine province. After that 1. World war Versailler contract was separated the Saargebiet and with it the district Ottweiler from the German Reich and placed 1920 under people federation mandate. 1946 becamethe circle area changed and with the area and circle reform of the Saarland 1974 was again changed it and the district in district nine-churches was renamed. The district administration remained however in Ottweiler. Since that time the district has the city nine-churches as district town andthe city Ottweiler as administrative seat of the circle. After conclusion of the municipality reform the district nine-churches covers still 7 municipalities, under it 2 cities. Largest city of the circle is the district town nine-churches, at the same time second largest city of the Saarland, smallest municipality is Merchweiler.
