the district rain is the northernmost district of the governmental district Lower Bavaria. Neighbour circles are in the north that Oberpfälzer district Cham, in the north and the east the Czech administrative district region Pilsen (Plzeňský kraj), in the southeast the district Freyung Grafenau, in the southwest the district Deggendorf and in the west the district Straubing elbow.

the AG of the Bavarian east courses opened for 1877 the circle area by the line Plattling - Deggendorf - rain - Zwiesel - Bavarian iron stone, here to the Austrian one Course (today Czech state railway) attached.
In the year 1890 two local railway distances were added, those from the first distance branches: The Bavarian state railways made the connection from Zwiesel after Grafenau and an local railway AG led a distance from God cell to Viechtach.
OnlyDecades later, i.e. 1928, the Eisenbahnnetz still two additions experienced and covered now a network of 119 km length:
The local railway AG extended its line from Viechtach to Blaibach and firmierte from now on as rain valley course AG (RISE UP), while the German National Railroad ofZwiesel from soil corn attached.
The rain valley course put its cross connection God cell to 1991 - Blaibach and at it 38 km of altogether 119 km lines in the circle quietly; however still routistic courses of the “moving course operate in the rain valley registered association” between God cell and Viechtach.
ThoseRISE UP took over itself under the designation „forest course “the passenger traffic first 1993 on the two Zwieseler branch courses and starting from 1997 also on the main line Plattling - Bavarian iron stone on behalf the German course, out of the circle area completely withdrawnhas.
