Laureus World of sport Awards
the Laureus World of sport Awards are internationally meaning honors in the range of the sport and also as sport Oscars are regarded.
The honors are assigned since 2000, the founders are the Stuttgart autocompany DaimlerChrysler (Mercedes Benz) and Swiss luxury goods company Richemont (Montblanc, IWC, Cartier). The statues, which are presented as price, are donated and sketched of Cartier. The annual ceremony stands under the patronage of prince Albert of Monaco. After the places of event in Monaco (Monte Carlo 2000-2003) and Portugal (Lisbon 2004, Estoril 2005) Spain (Barcelona for 2006) stands as thereby the fourth venue for the “OSCAR of the sport” to the discussion.
From the list of the suggestions (from over 400 journalists over 70 countries) in each case six nominating are arranged. The winners of the individual categories are then selected of the Laureus World of sport Academy. This Academy consists of a group of “sport legends” (e.g. Basin farmer, Jordan, Pelé, clammy one), at present 41 persons. The current chairman of the Laureus Academy is Edwin Moses.
