Joseph Haydn wrote altogether 83 quartets. Usually six quartets each are combined into a Opuszahl. Today the caper quartets are counted after section III of the Hoboken listing.

Opus of 33 Russian quartets (1781)
the quartet are that 1781 in Vienna because-end Grand Duke Paul dedicated of Russia, therefore the surname.
With them Haydn created caper quartets of completely new type (“… on one gantz new special kind. ”). So the header records have an execution and to follow the Sonatenhauptsatzform. The Menuett was replaced by a Scherzo.
The Russian quartets excited large attention, particularly Mozart affected it much. Mozart wrote six quartets, among them the dissonance quartet, which mark the high point in the Mozarts' quartet work after Haydns model.

Opus of 50 Prussian quartets (1787)
those the king Friedrich II. from Prussia dedicated quartets develop the classical making music style further found in op.33. Based on a rather simple topic in the header records the motivische material is particularly verarbietet artful, whereby each instrument is equivalently treated.
Particularly the first quartet shows a motive for tri oil over a knocking bass, which determines the complete sentence in the first sentence.
The slow sentences reach a before not known Cantabilität.

you are dedicated to the count Erdödi, therefore they are called also Erdödi quartets. Like already in the preceding group these quartets are no longer only for a small listener circle written separate for the concert hall. In the group one finds the most well-known Streichqartett Haydns: the emperor quartet with the variations over God receives Franz, the emperor, the Austrian Kaiserhymne and to later Germany song.
