Little walter
Little walter (actually Marion walter Yak-generic terms; * 1. May 1930 in Marksville, Louis IANA, the USA; † 15. February 1968 in Chicago, Illinois, the USA) was an US-American Bluesmusiker.
The influence of Little walter on the Harmonika in the Blues, is with from B. B. To compare King on the guitar. Critics compare Little walter with Charlie Parker.
This comparison therefore agitates probably also that Little walter played its Harmonika as one first, over a microphone and a guitar amplifier and obtained a sound, which was very similar to that of a saxophone.
Inspired of Bluesmusikern such as Sonny Boy Williamson and bend walter Horton created it in Chicago Blues a new style, whose Soli consisted one of original chord sequences and very much “electrical” sound had.
Biografie
in the middle of the forties was Little walter von Louisiana over Helena, Memphis and pc. Louis come to Chicago. In Helena it had contact to the guitarists Houston Stackhouse and Robert Lockwood Jr. had. Arrived at Chicago, walter was at Maxwell Street Market, the meeting place of many Bluesmusiker from the south often was. There it met also on Jimmy Rogers, which spent much time with Muddy Waters.
Muddy Waters recognized a being able of the exception musician and accepted the young walter to its volume. Thus they played in occupation: To Muddy Waters (git, voc.), Jimmy Rogers (git.), Little walter (hca.), Ernest “bend” Crawford (bs) and later baby Face Leroy Foster (Dr.) replaces by Elgin Evans.
The first records appeared 1950 on the label of the same name of the brothers Leonard and Phil Chess. Chess should become in the following years the dominating the market disk label of the Blues. A large portion of this market position by Muddy Waters and Little walter are attributed to successes.
Rather it is to be owed to a coincidence that Little walter was taken up as soloist of the Chess brothers. The instrument valley „Juke “should serve as piece of recognition for the volume of Muddy Waters. It became a completely large commercial hit and the entrance into a solo career for Little of walter.
Until 1957 Little still appears walter in the occupation lists with the Schallplattenaufnahmen of the Muddy Waters volume. Then it replaced of the young junior Wells, later with Buddy Guy a successful musical duo years for which should form.
Little walter took over in response the volume of junior Wells, which „Aces “which he renamed in “Jukes”, in occupation Louis Myers (git.), Dave Myers (bs.) and Fred Below (Dr.). With that volume had Little walter a row hit like for example: “Mean old world”, “off the barrier”, “Blues with the feeling”.
But musical success did not only have positive sides for Little walter: it was contentious, arrogant and tried others to overreach. Little walter separated from the Myers. The guitarist Robert Lockwood Jr took their place. . The walter years before in Helena had already met. Willie Dixon, a well-known size transferred the bass in Chicago Blues. Walter already knew Dixon from the surrounding field of Muddy Waters. Dixon had written a number of hits, which were the foundation-stone for the success of Muddy Waters. For walter Dixon wrote the piece „to My Babe “, with which he achieved again the first places of the hit parades. But for Little walter it was the beginning of the end:
1959 left Robert Lookwood Jr. the volume. Probably, because it became ever more difficult for the silent guitarist to come with walter clearly. The general interest in Little walter diminished rapidly and it in this time than is very moodily described. Chess accepted it only rarely, it was commercial at the beginning of the sixties at the end.
In the years 1964 and 1967 walter came in the context of the American Folk Blues festival to Europe. But the Blues Revival in Europe could not help this Könner on the Blues Harp no more “on the legs”:
It was killed 1968 in a small side street in Chicago in the controversy.
Taken up in the year 1980 it to the Blues resound to OF Fame.
