Locarno a municipality is in the circle of the same name (Circolo di Locarno) and principal place of the district of the same name of the canton Tessin in Switzerland. The earlier German name Luggarus is not no more used today.

Locarno is because of the Lago Maggiore at the east edge of the Maggia Deltas. To the slope above thatCity bevels itself the villages Locarno Monti and Orselina. By wire ropeway one reaches the Locarneser house mountain Cardada and the Cimetta lain still more highly.

Locarno is grown together with the municipalities Muralto and Minusio.

Locarno is considered to that as the warmest placeSwitzerland and as the northernmost locality with mediterranem climate at a lake. The measuring station Locarno Monti in somewhat increased situation registers an annual average of 11.5 °C, while the average lies in Swiss central country with approximately 7 to 9 °C.

Locarno is considered as terminator point of two railway lines, however strictly speaking not in Locarno, but inends to the neighbour municipality Muralto, where the station Locarno is. The normalspurige SBB - distance reaches its aboveground head station from the east from Bellinzona and concerns Locarno not at all. The schmalspurige Centovalli - course (FART/SSIF) from Domodossola reaches its terminator point from the west,however Locarno does not drive through since 1990 no more, but across a tunnelled route into its own, underground head station is led. This low station lies within the SBB area in Muralto, north the SBB plants, where to 1990 the plants of the FART stood.

The area around the station - where inRemaining one also the municipality border between Locarno and Muralto runs - is also the starting point of the Buslinien of the FART, which serve the Nebentäler.
