1950 read out Suppin as a painter of the figurativen expressionism Austria toward France, in order to go to the roots of the modern trend. This step was for it the break from the conventional painting to the constant search for new forms. Starting from this time it writes Lucas with'' C'', the exchange of this letter was the prelude to a new life program. It was at that time at the beginning of forty, openly for new - with the feeling due to the stolen war years still hardly to have artistically further developed. It began a stormy time, its painting for it changed completely.

Marseille becomes for the first two years its first French homeland, like all artists at that time oscillates it season-dependently between the Côte d´Azur and Paris. In Marseille Suppin becomes acquainted with the Polish painter Moisse Kisling , which him to the artist circle approximately around Picasso introduced. Suppin maintained a close contact to the representatives at that time'' of école de Paris'', so among other things with Poliakoff, Manessier, hardening, Ubac, Soulages, etc. It participates actively in this large world of the art, in a time, where an enormous departure tendency prevails, where everything meets and where abstraction and/or. as'' Michel Tapié de Celeyran expressed'' - a close friend Suppin´s - it'' un kind autre'' their new at home finds.

Starting from 1953 its new domicile becomes'' pc. Paul de Vence'', where it is accepted there to the circle that resident artist crowd. As „Zugereister “it enjoyed the privilege, in the famous painter colony pc. To be fully accepted Pauls. First cubist works, Suppin develop leave gradually the gegenständliche painting and turn to the art of the “Informel”, which rejected the traditional forms. Starting from this time led it its way am to abstraction.

first meetings, partly confines friendships and common exhibitions with Picasso, Léger, Atlan, Prévert, Chagall, Fautrier, Tzara and others led to becoming acquainted with the French mark tradition, which carried out a complete transformation in the painting Suppin´s. Thus Suppin to last professed itself to the pure color, to the line, to the impulsive one. Picasso and Matisse particularly coined/shaped Suppin and give it the crucial impulse to the turn to the abstract art.

eighteen years became France its place of residence. Family reasons led back it 1967 to Salzburg . Lock free hall became it new thereby creative place and at home. As artistic loners pushed it in the pittoresken city Salzburg on resistance, one felt its work as strange import. In the 70's it developed a new own handwriting, it argues with the material picture, a technology, with which he was pioneer of the Austrian avant-garde. For many years it used up itself the material of earth, sand, rocks up to noble metals and textiles. At the beginning of the 80's it broke however abruptly with this organization way, because it felt that the material should not receive the rule over the creative spirit. First it approaches pole LOCK and Tápies to its painter colleagues. It concerned to it however only stages out of this style development, by transferring of the Affektion from something to express out, to take up tried and then into the own picture linguisticness. Most important mental going away and close friend become it this time (1983-1988) Peter Handke. Long walks and deep discussions are reflected in the works of both artists again.

In its late work, Suppin is already over 80, shows it a hegemony of strahlenster colors. Affected by the light of the seeing era of Algeria, where Suppin withdraws itself over winter months, a repeated strong Verselbständigung of the artist takes place by means of a gestischen Impetus and exploding of the Kolorit.

Lucas Suppin belonged to those artists, who looked for own ways with an eternally recent readiness for the renewal. So little it of Austria to be assimilated to be able wanted, so little it the art trends risen in Vienna to follow might, so few it something from the substance developed out from it to pass on there have been able. A Solitär and as such of many only after long time recognized. Its work will still find to the value in the Austrian history of art, since it made a substantial contribution to width of the variations in the modern trend. Like that it was logical that France the Austrian painter Suppin to 27. June 1985 to the knight of the French Ehrenlegion had raised, an honor most rare for foreigners.
