Ludwig of the severity
Ludwig II., Duke of Bavaria (1253-1294), called the severity (* 13. April 1229 in Heidelberg; † 2. February 1294 in Heidelberg), starting from 1255 duke of Upper Bavaria and cure prince of the Pfalz, from the dynasty of the Wittelsbacher.

With the alleged conflicts between both it concerned rather disputes between Gefolgsleuten of both sides.
Its surname of the severity therefore agitates that it let his first wife Maria von Brabant ( * 1226 ) execute 1256, because it falsely suspected it adultery. As Sühne for this act Ludwig donated the monastery prince field (prince-field-bridge). In second marriage it was married with Anna von Schlesien Glogau ( around 1240 - 1271).
The duke was a guardian of its nephew Konradin of high baptism, provided for this the duchy Swabia and accompanied him with his Italy course 1267 to Verona. He withdrew himself in time and thereby not into the fall of the 1268 into Neapel executed Konradin was entangled. Materially it profited from its death, since Konradin used it as inheriting and in the Konradini donation in such a way specified possessions in the Upper Palatinate, over Sulzbach, in southwest Bavaria and Bavarian Swabia retired. It could not implement the choice of its brother-in-law Albrecht from having castle after the death of its father-in-law 1291 to the king. Those the Pfalz could Ludwig maintain, the Bavarian dropped back however 1289 at Böhmen. Ludwig II. - also in the Pfalz - and developed herzogliche power gained substantial new possessions for its duchy fully. It died to 2. February 1294 in its pfälzischen residence in Heidelberg. Successor became its son Rudolf I. from its third marriage with Mathilde of having castle.
