Ludwigshafen on the Rhine is after Mainz second largest city of Rhineland-Palatinate.

History
The area Ludwigshafen is already settled since very in former times time. Within the range of the local part Rheingoenheim existed that Roman castellet Rufiniana. By the gemarkung of the local parts Maudach and Oggersheim led the important Roman road of Speyer after Worms.

This company had been established briefly before as "aniline and sodafabrik of Baden", however granted by the Mannheimer local council had not gotten an area, why the company "of Baden" moved to Ludwigshafen into the Pfalz. 1882 the city receives the name additive for the distinction from other places of the same name "on the Rhine" and 1886 the past Landkommissariat Speyer is converted into an office for district and divided at the same time. Thus Ludwigshafen becomes seat of its own office for district, from the late district the Ludwig port (today Rhine Pfalz circle) comes out.
1891 those is integrated north the city convenient municipality Friesenheim. Follow to 1974 further incorporations.
1920 becomes circle direct Ludwigshafen, that is called it separates from the district Ludwigshafen, however first still remains under the financial autonomy of the district. The mayor receives the title mayor. 1925 becomes Ludwigshafen large city.
In the Second World War Ludwigshafen as well as Mannheim is destroyed nearly perfectly by air raids. One rebuilt the city in the new style.
In the course of the Rhineland-Palatinian regional reorganization becomes 1974 the municipality Ruchheim integrated. Thus the city achieves its current expansion.

Religions
The area of the city Ludwigshafen belonged to the Pfalz and was thereby predominantly an Evangelist area. But also Roman-catholic inhabitants tightened already briefly, after establishment of the municipality so that both denominations were relatively balanced represented.
The Evangelist inhabitants belonged at first to the church municipalities Oggersheim and/or Frankenthal (Pfalz), before they received 1862 their first independent church municipality. 1913 became the Evangelist Dekanat Ludwigshafen within that Evangelist church of the Pfalz (Protestant regional church) based, to that today all Evangelist church municipalities of the city belong, it is it is members of a free church.
The Roman-catholic inhabitants belonged at first to the Pfarreien Friesenheim, Mouth home and Oppau, before they received 1857 their first independent Pfarrei. Around 1913 the catholic Stadtdekanat Ludwigshafen developed within that Dioezese Speyer, to that today all catholic Pfarrgemeinden of the city belongs. By immigrants were added in the last 10 - 20 years also different religions.
