Luk Thung
Luk Thung (Thai ลูกทุ่ง), literally child of the field, is the most popular music direction in the rural areas of Thailand. The expression is the short form of Pleng Luk Thung (Thai เพลงลูกทุ่ง - song of the child of the field). The songs reflect the hard everyday life arms on the country again. The speed of the songs is somewhat slow. The singing is very expressiv with much Vibrato.
This form developed in the first half 20. Century. The term Luk Thung arose only in the 60's. Ponsri Woranut and Suraphon Sombatjalern were first large star of this music direction. Many the most popular Luk Thung - star came from the city Suphanburi, under it also the successful singer Pumpuang Duangjan, which adapted the style to the Thai Popmusik. This dancable form is called electronics Luk Thung. When Pompuang died 1992, were afraid many, Luk Thung with it would die. The style survived and with the establishment of a Luk Thung - radio station 1997 won the style popularity.
Since the 90ern there is many connections between Luk thung, to Thai Popmusik and Mor Lam. By the influence of the Mor Lam - style developed the new direction Luk Thung Isaan, which also Luk Thung Prayuk is called. This style contains the faster Rhytmen of the Mor Lam - style. A megastar of this direction is Jintara Poonlarp.
