Marcos Pérez Jiménez
Marcos Pérez Jiménez (* 25. April 1914 in Michelena, Táchira, Venezuela; † 20. September 2001 in Madrid, Spain) was a military and a politician and from 1952 to 1958 of the 42. President of Venezuela.
In its term of office many public investments were accomplished, like the building of the motorway from Caracas to La Guaira, the center Simón Bolívar or the iron and steel plant at the Orinoco.
In addition, Pérez Jiménez was a cruel dictator, who operated many torture centers. It went into the USA into the exile, however in August 1963 to its mother country was delivered. After serving a four years old detention it established itself then 1968 in Madrid.
life
born in Michelena Táchira as a son of a Farmers and a teacher, went to Pérez Jiménez in its place of residence and into Colombia to the school. Afterwards visited the military academy of Venezuela, which it locked 1934 as the class-best, before it visited different military schools in Peru.
it helped 1945 with a Putsch, with which the “democratic” government Rómulo Gallegos (Acción Democrática) could take over power, and became a Secretary of Defense. 1948 it led then a second Putsch on, in order to drive Gallegos out the office. The country of a military junta (under it also Pérez Jiménez and Germán Suárez Fleming-smell) under lieutenant colonel Carlos Delgado Chalbaud was governed from 1948 to 1952. As to 13. November 1950 Delgado Chalbaud was murdered, became Suárez Fleming-smells transition president, while Pérez Jiménez remained the actual strong man.
1952 held the junta elections. When however a victory of the opposition appeared, the choice short hand for invalid was explained and proclaimed Pérez Jiménez as the president.
Pérez Jiménez changed the national names of United States of Venezuela (since 1864) to republic Venezuela. (Only recently by president Hugo Chávez the name was changed again and reads now Bolivariani Republic of Venezuela, original: República Bolivariana de Venezuela.)

As Pérez Jiménez the opposition and critical voices in the population let most dictators suppress and pursue scruplesless. It was so effective with the pursuit of communists that it got the Legion OF Merit medal lent by Eisenhower.
A popular vote in December 1957 won Pérez Jiménez with large majority, whereby the result can be doubted.
In January 1958 there were rebellions in the roads of Venezuela, which induced Pérez Jiménez finally to flee into the USA where he lived until 1963, when he was delivered to the venezolanische law, which accused him of corruption and theft of 200 million dollar during its reign. After five years prison it became to dismiss. It went to Spain into the exile. When Hugo Chavéz was selected 1998, he invited Marcos Pérez Jiménez to the ceremonies to his assumption of office. Pérez Jiménez did not decrease/go back however because of numerous protests in Venezuela. It died at the age of 87 years in Madrid.
