McCune Reischauer
McCune Reischauer is together with the revised Romanisierung and the Yale Romanisierung one to most used transcriptions for the Korean writing. The South Korean ministry of education raised an easily changed version from McCune Reischauer 1988 to the official transcription. In the year 2000 then cult US and tourism Ministry introduced the revised Romanisierung likewise which is based on MR as official system, which did not completely become generally accepted however so far. Again different variant of the McCune Reischauer remains in North Korea further the official transcription. The respective official ISO transcriptions of north and South Korea do not play a larger role.
McCune Reischauer became 1937 of the two Americans George M. McCune and Edwin O. Reischauer production. These done without a original-faithful transliteration of the Hangeul - indications and oriented themselves more at a rendition of Korean words phonetic regarding English-speaking readers.

In Korean words romanisierten after McCune Reischauer stands ŭ for the written Hangeul vowel ㅡ, independently of its respective actual discussion. This resembles the first “e” depending upon speaker more or less in the German “g e gives ", but only, if ㅡ as vowel alone or in the Anlaut stands. The letter ŏ stands for the sound value of the Hangeul vowel ㅓ, from most speakers like the “o” in” o ffen " realized.
