the Terrtitorium of the Mark county extended from the north to the south in two separated parts between the sea-alps and the Po, covered 2750 km ² and had Monferrato to the capital. Karl the large one began for the administration of the country count, who was raised 967 from Otto the large one to Mark counts.

The dominant family participated in foremost place at the crusades , and placed in the conquered countries one set of monarchs, under it above all the two sons and a grandchild of the Mark count Wilhelm VI.:
