Nicolaas Cortlever

Nicolaas Cortlever (* 14. June 1915; † 5. April 1995) was a strong Netherlands chess player.

Cortlever participated five times in chess Olympiads . It won 1939 in Beverwijk and 1942 in Leeuwarden. It qualified itself several times for the Netherlands national championship.

Of the FIDE the title of international masters was lent to it.

In the opening a variant of the Sicilian defense carries its name: 1.e4 c5 2.Sf3 d6 3.d4 Sf6 4.dxc5. Also it created several final game studies.
