Nikolaus of Verdun

Nikolaus of Verdun (* around 1130 in Verdun, † after 1205 probably in Tournai) was a Goldschmied and an email painter originating from Lorraine. To its works the three-king shrine ( long sides) belongs Cologne cathedral (1181-1200), the Annoschrein in the Benediktinerabtei pc. Michael in victory castle (around 1183), the Marienschrein in the church Notre-Dame in Tournai (1205) and the three-part altar (“Verduner altar “) the Leopoldkapelle of the pin monastery new castle (1181).

The latter is regarded as the most important and besterhaltene work of the medieval email art.
