history
upper bromine brook was mentioned documentary for the first time in the year 1324. Ten or twelve families lived at that time here. It is to be accepted that the place existed for a long time before it as durable settlement place. In the document concerned 12 men were in particular designated, who had to guarantee themselves opposite the countess Loretta from Sponheim to the prevention of the migration from the land. Upper bromine brook was thereafter at that time at that time a place important for conditions. The settlement was formerly favoured by their situation in the intersection of age-old traffic lines very much. Here crossed the road of Metz across Birkenfeld after Oberstein, and of the horse height by the place leading the way connection of the Mosel over all brook to the woman castle, which continued to lead to the Glan.
Well hundred years after the first documentary mention the place was deserted. The inhabitants in the second half of the 14 were probable. Century grassierenden plague to the victim fallen. In the sponheimischen mortgage book of 1438 it was noted that 10 hereditary farmer places were present, but nobody lives more there. 1465 was again 4 farmsteads inhabited, in the year 1563 counted one 12 and 1607 even 27 families. In the 30jährigen war was upper bromine brook, like also the remaining localities of the environment, hard concerned. After the end of the war the place counted still 7 families. The population recovered only very slow during the following decades. Only 1723 one counts again 17 farmer farmsteads with 81 inhabitants in the place.
1777 one counted 34 families and 160 inhabitants. The agricultural surface the available became scarce the nutrition of the population. Several times the municipality-upper had to take the assistance of the office in Birkenfeld in requirement, in order to defend the traditional gemarkungs and reright borders against the herds of cattle of the municipality Rötsweiler and the tenant of the herrschaftlichen Winnenberger of yard. Around 1780 the first gemeindlichen land distributions came on, D. h. municipality-own country was distributed into private property, in order to increase agricultural production.
From 1830 to 1890 91 persons from the place emigrated. Most out pure emergency, in order predominantly to look for in north and South America a better economical basis. Around the center 19. Century the agate sharpening suppl. advertising in the municipality gained a foothold. Who did not have sufficient agricultural landed property, in order to nourish its family, had to look around for an additional acquisition. They predominantly went into the water loops at the swelling brook, some also into the loops to the close one. The only one on the Oberbrombacher Gemarkung around 1850 built Wasserschleifer to the close one was already torn off with the building of the Rhine close course 1856 again.
A large easement for the agricultural population in the place was the acquisition of a joint steam-propelled threshing machine. In the year 1884 by the local resident farmers a “steam thresh Actiengesellschaft” was created. In the following years the Oberbrombacher was threshing machine also in many places of the environment in the hourly wages in use.
Contrary to the general poverty of the largest part of the population in the place 19 stood in the second half. Century the wealth of the municipality. No municipality far and broadly ordered over as much financial resources as upper bromine brook. Over decades the jurors and local councils let age-old forest stands, predominantly oaks and Kiefern, in proper predatory exploitation, hit in order to fill with proceeds the Gemeindkasse. Also the Lohverkäufe brought to 1890 good profits. The local councils of that time worked like bankers. The yields were lent on a large scale as interest-bearing loans at applicants for the credit of the further environment and put on partly also into obligations at fixed interest. 1825 made the municipality available for the first time a Hirtenhaus as “schoollocal” . 1842 were built the first new school building. 1887 established the municipality a cemetery. In the following years a central water supply one discussed several times. The building of the water pipeline, which was fed from two sources in more than 6 km distance above Leisel, came however only 1908 to the completion. At the same time a new school building was planned, which was finished 1911.
In the year 1912 the municipality was attached to electrical electricity mains. In the same year also the threshing machine received an electric drive. Now there was a large easement also for the many Schleifer in the place. Instead of beginning daily the far way into the water loops, at the houses in the place sharpening areas were cultivated, where the whet-stones were electrically propelled. To Begin of the First World War the municipality from its large financial resources drew considerable war loans. The gemeindliche bell was melted for war purposes. After end of war all wealth of the municipality was there. After 1920 upper bromine brook became applicant for the credit.
Briefly after the First World War the first Edelsteinschleifer in the place arose. Starting from the end of the twenties the Diamantschleifer increased rapidly in meaning. Between the two world wars was more than half of all local resident families sharpening designers. After the dominating trade of the Schleifereien the remaining craftsmen were in terms of figures insignificant in the place. According to the Second World War a fast economic change in the place carried out itself. The agriculture lost fast at meaning. The Schleifereien experienced temporarily an economical bloom, which again past was then in addition, already in the sixties.
After the school enterprise was finally shifted into the center school to Niederbrombach, the municipality 1981 converted the two school halls to a community center. In the 90's the sewer system was renewed and the village routes with plaster and/or bitumen was covered. Today the employed persons are as good as excluding as workers and employees outside active. From that formerly more than 40 agricultural full and supplementary income enterprises only 2 is present.
