Olympic summer games 1920/Eishockey
the olympic ice hockey tournament of the olympic summer games 1920 in Antwerp, Belgium long time was considered as demonstration competition and did not belong thus not to the official olympic program. Only in recent past it was recognized by the IOC as official olympia tournament. The olympic ice hockey tournament was thatfirst nation tournament in Europe, in which agencies of the USA and Canada participated; the tournament was explained therefore - however also only afterwards - by the international ice hockey federation (IIHF ) as the first ice hockey world championship. The plays found of 23. up to 29. April 1920 instead of. 7 crewsparticipated in it; the tournament was delivered in the pure K.O system. However the finalist became not automatically second, but had to deny an additional round with those teams, which had failed before because of Canada. In same way there was then a round around the bronze medal. Canada wonthe tournament and got itself its first olympia victory and WM-title. A play at that time still consisted of 2 half times.
