PRML

Partial Response/maximum Likelyhood (PRML) is a recording mode, in order to write data on magnetic data media.

In order to write data on a magnetic data medium, these data are coded before. By this trick one receives a higher data density on the surface of a non removable disk. This is done unnoticed by the user completely via the CONTROLLER of the non removable disk.

PRML is used today still with modern non removable disks, but more and more of EPRML displaces, which makes 20 to 70 per cent higher data densities possible because of its improved algorithms and signal processing.
