Pamukkale (Turkish for cotton lock) is a village in the southwest of Turkey in the proximity of the city Denizli. The place received its name by the impressing lime sinter terraces, which resulted over thousands of years from kalkhaltige Thermalquellen and today represent a popular tourist attraction. The terraces stand on the list of the world cultural heritage of the UNESCO.
The water is satisfied with calcium hydraulic gene carbonate. When escaping the carbon dioxide from the water the solubility border is exceeded andit precipitates calcium carbonate in the form of Travertin . In addition some data: Payment 250 l Thermalwasser in the second (approx. 30 °C), D. h. daily 21600 m ³. In a litre 2.2 g lime are solved, which is separated, the daily quantity amount to thereby 48 tons.
Inpassed the 50 years were the terraces by above delighted hotels, which used the Thermalwasser, ever more purged and had partly their typical white color lost. Up to the year 1998 however all hotels torn off, now tries one assistance of a thought out irrigation system, the terracesto repair from Pamukkale again.
With Pamukkale is the antique place Hierapolis.
