the region have common borders with the circles Nordböhmen, Královohradecký, Olomouc, Südmähren and Vysočina. In the northeast it borders on Poland. The naturalBorder forms a part of the Orlické hory (eagle mountains) and the westernmost part of the Hrubý Jeseník (high of dies). In the south and southeast the hills of the Žďárské rise vrchy (Saarer of mountains) and Železné hory (iron mountains). The center of theCircle takes the fruitful level of the Elbtales. Orlické hory, Žďárské vrchy and Železné hory belong to the protected areas of the region. Highest point is the mountain Králický Sněžník (1,424 M.ü.M.), with original vegetation and Hochmooren it to the protected area was proclaimed. The deepest point is thoseWater surface of the Elbe with Kojice (202 M.ü.M.).

The road system is 3,581 km long, with roads 1. Class of 445 km, 2. Class 913 km and 3. Class 2,223 km. The most important road connection exists betweenPardubice and Chrudim after Ždírce nad Doubravou. A most important goal is the prefabricated construction of the motorway Praha - Poděbrady to the east. In the air traffic the airport Pardubice with private and military air traffic plays the largest role. In the water traffic is only the navigable part of the Elbe andthe port in Pardubice of importance. 2002 began the regular navigation from Kunětická Hora after Pardubice and Přelouč.
