Political municipality

the political municipality is the most important municipality form in Switzerland. It is called in different cantons as inhabitant municipality, in the canton Glarus local municipality.

If from the municipality the speech is, then the political municipality is usually meant. Also the places calling as city have this legal form as regional administrative bodies. A city is in Switzerland thus always also a political municipality.

The political municipality orders over in such a way called general authority in local affairs. She notices all local tasks, those by superordinate right not for the sphere of activity of another type of municipality (e.g. Kirchgemeinden, school municipalities) to be explained.

That was not always like that. Still in early 19. From the old community of the Vorrevolutionszeit civil municipalities or local citizen municipalities come out nearly all authority held century. Today these municipality forms which are based on old citizen rights are understood in becoming extinct.
