Quintana Roo is a Federal State of Mexico (since 1974). It has a surface 50,212 km ² and approximately 875,000 inhabitants (2000). Its capital is Chetumal. It designated after Andrés QuintanaRoo, a liberty poet.
Quintana Roo is elongated because of the Karibikküste on the peninsula Yucatán. In the south it borders on Belize, in the west on the Federal States Yucatán and Campeche. The country is flat and to a large extent with rain forests covered, their density afterThe south increases.
