Governmental district Erfurt

the governmental district Erfurt was one of the three governmental districts (beside Magdeburg and Merseburg), which were formed with mechanism of the province Saxonia 1815 within the State of Prussia. After the dissolution of the province Saxonia in the year 1944 it was subordinated to the realm governor in Thuringia. 1945its area the country Thuringia was integrated. There no governmental districts were formed.

The governmental district Erfurt had a surface until 1944 of 3533 km ² and in the year of 1910 530,775 inhabitants. Apart from the main area in the northwest of Thuringia various Exklaven belonged to , as at 458 km ² the circle Schleusingen with the city Suhl, the area around moving lives and Mühlberg, at 201 km ² the circle goat back with the city Ranis as well as, to the circle goat back belonging however separately from it lying, the municipalities coming village, bright mountain, saving mountain, Blintendorf and Gefell. 1932the governmental district the circle Ilfeld from the province Hanover was eingeliedert, 1944 followed the district rule Schmalkalden at 280 km ² surface.
