Robert Richards
Reverend Robert (Eugene) Richards, called the vaulting Vicar, (* 20. February 1920 in Champaign, Illinois, the USA) was an US-American athlete and minister.
Richards was a minister in California, when he qualified himself in the Stabhochsprung for the olympic plays 1952 in Helsinki, therefore comes its pointed name “jumping Vikar”. Already four years before, at that time still student, he had won the bronze medal with the olympic plays in London. In Helsinki there was the gold medal with 4.55 meters jumped over height even. This success could it four years later with the plays in Melbourne repeat. Richards is thereby the only Stabhochspringer, that twice olympia gold to achieve could and also the only Stabhochspringer, who won three medals in this discipline with olympic plays. 1956 it participated also in the ten-fight , could not intervene however not in the fight for the medals and became 13. with 7313 points.
