Looking stage at the Lehniner place
the looking stage at the Lehniner place is a theatre in Berlin and 1981 at the cure prince dam was again established. It is considered as one of the most important stages in Germany. The salient circular building at the end of the cure prince dam was a project of the world-famous architect Erich Mendelsohn. The building was opened 1928 as the largest cinema of Berlin (“universe”). In the Second World War destroyed, after the war again as cinema and 1969 as dance restaurants and musical theatres used, it was finally placed 1979 under monument protection. 1981 were converted it to one of the bestausgestatteten theatres.
The beginnings of the theatre of the looking stage decrease/go back against it to the year 1962 , when students created a free stage in cross mountain. 1970 created actors, directors and theatre authors around the director Peter Stein a theatre collective in the areas of the looking stage on resounding ashes the bank. Participation and artistic liberty beyond the traditional city theatre were the center of the work of the group. Into the 1970er years developed innovative work of the direction theatre. Particularly the critical reappropriation of the pieces of antique Greek authors set new yardsticks. Highest requirements in the selection of historical pieces (Shakespeare, Kleist, Tschechow), a new intensity in the psychological and socialhistorical analysis and interpretation as well as a rigide text loyalty made the looking stage one of the theatres in West Germany, leading for many years. The works of the house author and drama door gene Botho bunch had here their premieres. 1981 received the ensemble of the looking stage then a multi-functional theatre at the Lehniner place, whose technical equipment corresponded to the then highest standard.
In the season 1999/2000 a conclusion conclusion was drawn under the era stone, which had carried out a retreat on rates since 1985. Last less and less favours at the productions found public such as criticism. Now one tried it with a politically less provokanten program, but wanted one on the height the time to remain at least aesthetic. A group of young artists around the choreographies Sasha Waltz and the director Thomas Ostermeier and Jens Hillje took over together the artistic line of the house. After a retreat of the dance section 2004/2005 from this function with the simultaneous whereabouts in the looking stage Ostermeier became exclusive artistic leader. In June 2005 Waltz quit the co-operation contract with the looking stage prematurely and finally, main point at issue is the financing of both ensembles.
From the original group of establishments of the looking stage on resounding ashes the bank still Jürgen Schitthelm is active as a director.
