Battle around the east Salomonen
the battle around the east Salomonen lasted from 23. up to 25. August 1942 and was part of the fight for Guadalcanal during the Pacific war.
The Japanese fleet under admiral Isoroku Yamamoto tried to lure US armed forces under admiral Frank Jack Fletcher into a trap, as the light Japanese carrier Ryujo was ahead-sent as seal. Fletcher swallowed the seal, attacked the Ryujo with the carrier relays of the USS Enterprise and the USS Saratoga . These sunk the ship. As meanwhile the American fleet was planned by Japanese combat aircraft, which were started of the carriers Zuikaku and Shokaku, attacked. In addition Fletcher had held back however a part of its hunter relays for the protection of the fleet and could on the Flakunterstützung of the battle ship USS North Carolina count. Although from the 80 aggressors only about 10 returned to their carriers, they obtained three bomb hits on the USS Enterprise.
Fletcher, which had lost only about 20 airplanes, pulled itself thereupon back. The combat relays of the Enterprise were shifted to the Henderson Airfield on Guadalcanal, where they strengthened the American air rule.
A Japanese supply convoy after Guadalcanal on the way was simultaneous, was withdrawn, after on the Henderson Airfield heavily damaged and the destroyer Mutsuki had sunk stationed bombers the light cruiser Jintsu.
