Schmirn is a municipality in the district Innsbruck country, Tirol (Austria).

situation

Schmirn lie in the side valley of the same name Wipptals. The Gemeindegebiet extends from pc. Jodok up to the comb of the Tuxer Voralpen and hands high Olperer to 3476 m in the south at the Tuxer main comb with that. The settlement area is coined/shaped by scattered Weiler, whereby the local part Schmirn represents the center of the municipality. The southern part of pc. Jodok belongs to the municipality Vals. The valley is flowed through by the lubrication brook, which flows into the Sill.

history

Schmirn was mentioned 1249 for the first time as “Vallis Smurne” and is since 1811 an independent municipality. From Kasern at the end of the lubrication valley the way leads across the Tuxer yoke after Hintertux (in the rear Zillertal), which belonged until 1926 to the municipality Schmirn.
