The shoe size depends on the length and if necessary the width of the feet. Internationally different systems are common by shoe sizes.

In some systems the sizes for women and for men do not cover themselves with same foot length. Since in addition, many shoes, as for instance sport shoes, are carried by both kinds of sex, shoe statements of size cannot be used “blindly”.

European shoe size systems

in Europe prevailing two systems for the computation of the shoe size forwards:

  • The French system, with that a shoe size 2/3 cm (approx. ) (Paris or French passes ) the “German
  • ” system corresponds to 0.6667 cm, with which a shoe size corresponds to 1/4 tariff (0.635 cm).

From this also those result apparently so differently “failing” shoes, which are produced depending upon manufacturing country either after or other system. Denmark uses for example the French system. Example: 28 cm foot length is after “German” measure shoe size 44, after French measure however only shoe size 42.

Shoe size 40 are 40 x 1/4 tariff = 10 tariff, which corresponds to 25.4 cm. With lady shoes the shoe statements of size deviate however often strongly downward above the shoe size 38, by a smaller foot “produce”.

The average shoe size is with men 44, with women 40, whereby the average size emerges rarely. More frequently for example shoe size 42 or 45/46 emerges, sizes 43 and 44 is somewhat rarer with men either.

US-American grössensystem

shoe size · 1/3 tariff + 7 1/3 tariff = foot length in tariff (applies by the way only to men)
