Selman Abraham Waksman

Selman Abraham Waksman (* 2. July 1888 in Priluka (with Kiew), Ukraine; † 16. August 1973 in Woods gets, Massachusetts, the USA) was an US-American biochemist.

Waksman used the designation antibiotic as the first. From soil bacteria it isolated 1940 cytostatic drugs the actinomycin and 1943 the antibiotic Streptomycin.
