Simon Molitor (* 3. November 1766 in Neckarsulm; † 21. February 1848 in Vienna) (actually: Alois Franz Simon Joseph Molitor) was a German composer of the classical period, music researcher and the civil servant. Before it became enthusiastic passionately for the guitar, Molitor began its musical training as a violonist. In Vienna it was active as guitars virtuose and music teachers. He wrote also together with the guitarist William Klingenbrunner (also Klinger called) a guitar school.
Its father was director/conductor of the church music and even different compositions in this area had supplied. It moved later to Mergentheim, where it died as a Kapellmeister in the service of the German medal. Simon Molitor received already in the boy age from the father first music instruction, as well as instruction in the Violin - and piano plays. After the will of its father it should study, since this wanted to make its expressed musical talent recognized and a Schumann from it.
That did not correspond however to its conceptions, so that he departed without knowledge of parents from the university and starting from its 18. Lebensjahr a driving Virtuosenleben began. It pulled by Germany and played in orchestras, gave concerts and composed concert and chamber music for different instruments and for singing. End of the 1780er years came he to Vienna, where he studied with Abbé Vogler composition.
1798 it occurred according to the desire of its family as a civil servant the imperial Kriegskommissariat and changes later for food supply decaying. During the campaign 1799 it composed patriotic war songs, which were sung with enthusiasm.
The last musical achievement from that time was a guitar school, which contributed substantially to break this instruments course. From then on, up to its 1831 took place retirement, worked he as a civil servant and to upper food supply manager was carried. With diligence he dedicated and collected themselves in particular materials to a history of the Viennese yard chapel and the earlier yard opera to his musical-historical research. February 1848 in 82. Lebensjahre died, could not he the fruits of its much-year old research however any longer harvest.
Individual music-historical essays Molitors appeared in the “Leipziger general musical newspaper”: so 1838 a rehabilitation of the imperial yard composer Francesco Conti and 1839 remarks called to life history Emanuels, the baron von Astorga.
Simon Molitor was in its early years an industrious composer. The guitar school, which it jointly published with William Klingenbrunner, was frequently used for its time. In addition it wrote many pieces for this instrument, like also pieces of solo for the violin. The latter particularly to the own lecture with its art journeys.
The society of the music friends in Vienna possesses still 44 music pieces of his composition in their archives.
