Soraya Esfandiary Bakhtiari
Soraya Esfandiary Bakhtiari (Persian: ثریااسفندیاریبختیاری [soræˈjːɔː esfændiɔːˈriː bæxtiɔːˈriː]; * 22. June 1932 in Isfahan, Iran; † 25. October 2001 in Paris) was from 1951 to 1958 empress of Persia.
She was the daughter of prince Khalil Esfandiary Bakhtiari, the Iranian Ambassador in the Federal Republic of Germany, and its German wife, EH Karl.
To 12. February 1951 married Soraya in the Golestan palace of Teheran Schah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last emperor of Persia. Soraya was lent the title „princess “and the address „imperial sovereignty “. Since the empress could not give however the hoped for heir to the throne to her man, the marriage became from reasons of the Staatsräson to 6. April 1958 divorced.
The look up-exciting divorce inspired the French singer-songwriter Françoise Mallet Jorris to write a song („for each Veux Pleurer Comme Soraya “ - I would like to cry like Soraya) over it.
As an empress it was often topic of the rainbow press, which called it the “German on the Pfauenthron “. Also their divorce was pursued by these sheets with large interest.
To the divorce Soraya went to France and began a second career as a film actress. First she was to be seen to Three Faces OF A Woman in the film „“and fell in love with the Italian director Franco Indovina (1932-1972), with which it was associated up to its death. After Indovina had died with an airplane misfortune, she spent the remainder of her life with journeys by Europe and operated in the international jet set. She suffered from depressions.
Soraya died to 25. October 2001 at heart failure in their Paris dwelling and became on the west cemetery in Munich, Baldurstr. 28 buried.
After it had experienced from its death, their brother said Bijan Esfandiary Bakhtiari: „Now I do not have anybody more, with which I can talk “. It died one week after it.
On the occasion of an attendance of the pair of emperors in Germany it was distinguished with „the special stage of the large cross “ of the earnings/service medal of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Their time as an empress of Persia was filmed 2004 of Lodovico Gasparini under the title “Soraya” with Anna Valle in the main role.
