history
Sponholz was mentioned documentary for the first time in the year 1496. Like many other places of the environment also Sponholz in the dreissigjährigen war was pulled heavily in. The church was heavily damaged. From 1795 to 1945 Sponholz was seat of the grossherzoglichen office of Mecklenburg Strelitz. Since the year 1867 Sponholz has a rail connection.
