history
the streetcar in Nuremberg developed for that starting from 1881 as horse course and of the society created by of Bremen the buyer Heinrich Alfes streetcar was only mountain ford ago operated. The conversion to electrical operation took place in the years 1896 to 1898. Starting from 1903 the city Nuremberg took over the up to then private society.
When the Ludwig course 1922 had to stop their enterprise, one leased the route along the today's ford ago road and directed toward it a motorway line between Fürth and Plärrer in the legendary „red one 31 “. As addition of the streetcar net those furnished only mountain ford ago streetcar starting from January 1923 also Buslinien : the first lines operated between main station and Zerzabelshof (the streetcar distance planned there was never realized) and from the fruit market over chief market and castle to the airport at that time at the Marienberg.
When after the Second World War the motorized individual traffic accepted ever stronger extents, one looked also in Nuremberg for solution methods. The “Lambert appraisal” suggested the building to a U-streetcar Stuttgart models among other things with a ring in the city centre. This could have been developed later still to the classical underground. Prognoses following that the number of inhabitants in Nuremberg and Fürth would increase the building of a full underground on 800.000 inhabitants decided one to concern immediately, since such was also in Munich in planning. However these planning planned a net, in which the underground was only supplemented by penalty and which streetcar traffic should be stopped until approximately 2000. Drastic deactivations took place with progressive subway railway construction then end of the 70's and at the beginning of the 80's. Above all the attitude of the subnetwork in Fürth to 20. June 1981, the first line that only mountain ford ago streetcar at all, met the streetcar at an important life vein. But protests moved against a further cutting of the streetcar net toward end of the 80's. 1994 then finally decided the Nürnberger town councillor the receipt of the streetcar, so that the VAG could introduce a comprehensive modernization of the remaining net. Today the six lines of the streetcar form an important cornerstone in a net from rapid-transit railways, undergrounds, streetcars and penalties. However in the last years by the start-up of the new operating yard and repair work “Heinrich Alfes road” several operating yards (“northeast”, 2001 and “Maximilianstrasse”, 2004) were shut down, the old streetcar main work in Muggenhof and some distances needed in the regular transport service no more. The only still received old strassenbahndepot with track connection is in the quarter the pc. Peter, in whom today however the Nürnberger streetcar museum is.
