Sukarno
Sukarno (* 6. June 1901 in Surabaya; † 21. June 1970 in Jakarta), Indonesian Soekarno or also Bung Karno mentioned, was a first president of Indonesia. In German sources it also Ahmed Sukarno is called. It is not however in Javato have uncommonly only one name. Sukarno is the father of the later president Megawati Sukarnoputri.
Sukarno called to 17. August 1945 the Republic of Indonesia out and reached the acknowledgment of the independence from the Netherlands. From 1949 to 1967 he was a president of Indonesia.
The reign was characterized by tensions between communist and Islamic forces. Due to increasing the tensions Sukarno supported itself more and more on the forces of the military for the stabilization of its power. The policy was strongly nationalistic aligned, in order to stabilize the many people state, and oriented itselfeconomically partly at communism.
Starting from 1959 Sukarno over Indonesia prevailed as a dictator and could 1963 to the president on lifetime be selected.
With regard to foreign policy tensions led nearly to the war with the neighbour state Malaysia, since this was to have supported Islamic forces. 1965 withdrew the countrythe United Nations out. 1966 gave it a Putschversuch from left, failed, into which minister of foreign affairs Subandrio was complicated, and a Gegenputsch from right, the general Suharto stated. Sukarno was entmachtet practically, remained however official in the office. It came to the civil war and to massacres, as Suhartoand anticommunist generals the communist party made responsible for the Putschversuch. The army and Islamic fighters killed in the following months over 100.000 trailers of the communists. Suharto won ever more at power. The exact circumstances of the events in this time are not clarified until today.Sukarno finally stepped to 22. February 1967 officially back and was placed under house arrest.
