| Proto semitisches Cross | Phoenizi Taw | Greek rope | Etruski T | Latin T |
The early form letters in proto semitischen alphabet is a cross. The meaning of this symbol is unclear, it was probable a marking. Those Phoenizier gave the name to the letter Taw, with the sound value [ t ]. Both in the proto semitischen and in the phoenizischen alphabet the Taw could be also written lying, in a form, those the X resembles.
Into that Greek alphabet became the letter as Rope taken up. The Greeks used thereby the form of the Taw standing on the point. Already in the earlyGreek however the crossbar to to the point of the letter moved.
The Etrusker and after them the Romans took over the letter as T. They changed neither for sound value nor appearance.
