Tariff

a tariff is a collection of firm conditions, in particular prices, for achievements of certain kind. For goods the term is used more rarely. Such conditions are called tariff if they are offered to many possible contracting parties on one side by an offerer; in particular also, if they have an official character.

The word tariff originates from the Arab one, it means proclamation, price list (too Arab ´arrafa, announce). In the Arab one with customs tariffs , also the city Tarifa was particularly used has therefore its name. On the way over the Italian “tariffa” and French “tariff” arrived it as leaning word into the German language.
