Tarocchi
Italian name form of the pack of cards (German) or (French).
The name appeared after today's knowledge level (2004) in the year 1505 almost at the same time in Ferrara (Italy) as Tarocchi and in Avignon (France) as Taraux. The meaning of the name is unsettled and the subject of many debates and explanation suggestions.
Already before the existing play became first also Trionfi, "triumph", "ludus triumphorum" and similarly designates (Italian latin forms German triumph ode trumpf; Trionfi is the Plural of Trionfo = triumph). This name form is called in February 1442 in a Ferraresi invoice book in connection with spielkarten, mentioned for the first time for the first time in France it 1482. Many other earlier Italian documents clarify that the designated play developed first in Italy and became domestic in Southern France then. Owing to dominant factors an early pack of cards production in Lyon and environment (formed approx.. 1480 - 1510) with numerous exports in other areas and countries developed a Southern French primacy in this first Italian play, which led de Marseille "to that today as traditionally valid type" Tarot (17. Century).
Tarocchi or Tarot, later in German-language countries Tarock, the common name form for packs of cards with additional specially designed cards became outside of the usual color rows (usual in a 4x14 + 22 - structure). The name Trionfi, first devised, in order special spielkarten with (the pass an attractive) character to designate, mutated in the course of the time and designated plays "triumphierenden", in which the specially designed cards, and then also the general did not emerge at all "play the trump card" during a map pass.
