Ulrike wet Meyfarth (* 4. May 1956 in Frankfurt/Main) is a former German Hochspringerin and a double Olympiasiegerin.

Meyfarth showed already in the juvenile age its sporty talent. 1971 became it at the ageof 15 years überrraschend second with the German Leichtathletikmeisterschaften. It could confirm success in the subsequent year and qualified themselves as Drittplatzierte for the olympic plays in Munich.

In the olympic match Meyfarth was one of the few athletes, those four years before from the US-AmericanHochspringer thickly Fosbury Fosbury flop shown jumped for the first time. Before domestic public it succeeded to Meyfarth to increase their personal best performance, which was before at 1,85 m, in order 5 cm. With jumped over 1.90 m it secured itself the gold medal before Bulgaria Jordanka Blagoewa and the Austrian Ilona Gusenbauer. When the olympia victory was already certain, Meyfarth let the slat put on the new world record height of 1,92 m. Also this height mastered the 16-jährige. Meyfarth is to date the youngest Leichtathletik Olympiasiegerin in a single competition.

In the years after its surprising victory it turned outinto a sporty crisis. Their jumps did not possess no more the used Konstanz, their personal best performance could it until 1978 increase. With the olympic plays 1976 in Montréal it did not qualify itself for the final, with which athlete IC European championships 1974 and 1978 occupied it a sievedand a fifth place. 1982 created Meyfarth their comeback. During the athlete IC European championships in Athens it improved the world record on 2,02 M. With this height it became Europameisterin and 1983 gotit in Helsinki with the for the first time organized Leichtathletikweltmeisterschaft after an exciting duel with the Soviet Russian Tamara Bykowa the silver medal.

To 21. August 1983 succeeded it with a Leichtathletik Meeting in London both to Meyfarth as well as Tamara Bykowa to increase the world record on 2,03 m. Four dayslater Bykowa put still another further centimeter after.

The olympic plays 1984 in Los Angeles were the last large competition, in which Ulrike Meyfarth participated. The quality of the competition suffered from the boycott of the plays by the Eastern Bloc countries. Many their strongest competitor inside were missing. ToEnd became generally accepted Meyfarth with jumped over 2.02 m against the title defense Sara Simeoni from Italy and won 12 years to Munich their second olympic gold medal. Thus Meyfarth is at the same time the youngest and the oldest Hochsprung Olympiasiegerin in the history of the olympic plays.

Their sporty successes help Meyfarth to a large popularity. She was four times selected from 1981 to 1984 in consequence to the Sportlerin of the yearly.
