Vallemaggia (district)
the district Vallemaggia (ital. Distretto di Vallemaggia, ehem. Landvogtei May valley) is a subunit of the canton Tessin in Switzerland and covers the Valle Maggia (dt. Maggiatal or May valley) and its Nebentäler. Principal place is Cevio. It is 569,5 km ² largely, counts 5796 inhabitants (at the end of of 2004) and consists of the following circles (circoli):

changes in the existence since 1803
- with decree of xx.xx.xxxx the earlier municipalities Niva , Campo ( Vallemaggia) became and Cimalmotto to the new municipality Campo (Vallemaggia) fuses.
- With decree from the 1858 the earlier municipality Cevio was separated into the new municipalities Cevio and Linescio.
- With decree of 1864 was fused the earlier municipalities Prato and Sornico to the new municipality Prato Sornico.
- With decree of xx.xx.xxxx the earlier municipalities Someo and Riveo were fused to the new municipality Someo.
- With decree of 10. June 1936 the earlier municipalities Mogno and Fusio were combined to the new municipality Fusio.
- With decree of 8. Octobers 2003 were fused the earlier municipalities Aurigeno , Moghegno , Maggia , Lodano , Coglio , Giumaglio and Someo to the new municipality Maggia.
- With decree of 8. Octobers 2003 were fused the earlier municipalities Brontallo , Menzonio , Broglio , Prato Sornico , Peccia and Fusio to the new municipality Lavizzara.
- With decree of 23. January 2005 the municipalities Cevio , Bignasco and Cavergno should be fused to the new municipality Cevio (nuova Cevio). Against this fusion the municipality raised Bignasco complaint before Federal court. In April 2006 the court decided against Bignasco.
