Soupe du jour
Soupe du jour is a French phrase meaning "soup of the day". It is normally used to refer to the specific flavour of soup being served in a restaurant on a given day.
On menus, in the English language, it is very often referred to as "soup du jour", instead of using the French spelling of "soupe". Another common mistake is to refer to the "soupe du jour of the day," which is an obvious redundancy; since "du jour" is French for "of the day," "soupe du jour of the day" would mean "soup of the day of the day."
The French "du jour" (from the Latin noun dies 'day') should not be confused with the Latin "de jure" (from the Latin noun jus, juris 'law') which means "based on law".
