Talk:U-Bahn
What about other German speaking countries' U-bahns? Like Vienna. --rmhermen
<Mental Headslap> - Right ! I forgot Vienna. I'll add it asap.
An anonymous user just added Serfaus to "Austrian cities with a U-bahn system". Since Serfaus is a mountain resort in the Tirol (serfaus.com) I strongly doubt whether it has a U-bahn, though it does have some cable cars (bergbahnen), so I'm removing it... -- Arwel 12:51, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)
U-Bahn?
It might be nice to have some explanation as to what U-Bahn is an abbreviation of. Eh?
Serfaus has a U-Bahn, see for yourself: serfaus.com (Direct link to the english page) and Transportation_in_Austria
- The German atricle is a little confusing in their explanation of what the U in U-Bahn stands for: On the one hand, it says: "Die U-Bahn, auch Untergrundbahn oder Metro genannt", and on the other: "Auch wenn das U oft für unterirdisch zu stehen scheint, bedeutet es in Deutschland unabhängig". Which I would understand as: Even though the U seems to to stand for unterirdisch, it does stand for unabhängig.
- I think what is meant is that the "U" does indeed stand for Untergrundbahn but on certain sections the "U-Bahn" might be a surface railway or even an elevated railway. In Hamburg the opposite is the case. The "U" Bahn is also called Hochbahn i.e. Elevated railway. Hope this clarifies the situation.IsarSteve 12:02, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Edit History
For the record, I reverted the change by Louis3ham from 29 Jan 2006 (he had added Cologne and Frankfurt to the list of U-Bahn systems, which is of course not true). My change became effective, but for some reason it doesn't show up in the edit history. Seems to be a bug. Anorak2 10:12, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
