Gastric intrinsic factor

It is a chemical substance produced by the gastric mucosa (stomach), which is necessary for the intestinal absorption of B12 vitamin.

A deficiency of the intrinsic factor can be originated by the surgical extirpation of the stomach or by diseases that cause that the gastric mucosa diminishes (Gastritis, Infection by , etc) and can cause pernicious anemia.
