Wikipedia in Japanese it is the Japanese edition of , a free and opened encyclopedia. This edition is the fourth greatest one after , , and . It began in September of , and, in August of 2005, had more than 136.000 articles.
It seems that the Wikipedia began to be multilingual in May of . In those dates apparently there were 12 editions in languages different from English ([[ 1 ]), including one in Japanese. As much the original page, HTTP://ja.wikipedia.com, as the others were written in or romaji since software did not allow Japanese characters.
The first article was "Nihongo nonFunimekusu" (although he was incorrect, probably meant onso taikei () and was written in romanji.
The 1 of September of , software was updated to "Phase III" and the articles were traladados to the new version. It was in this point in which software was translated interface to the Japanese.
