DER Spiegel is a large magazine of investigations and investigation . The model of Spiegel, but also its leading line is very similar with the titles américians such as Time or Newsweek. History
The creation of the magazine
With the initiative of the British occupant, a new weekly magazine, Diese Woche (This Week), the day for some numbers in November sees . In , Augstein repurchases the shares of Gruner for 42 million Deutsche Mark) and becomes the single owner. This situation does not last since Gruner and Jahr repurchase 25% of the title in . In , Augstein restructures the newspaper and proposes to the employees to become shareholders about it.

Businesses and Scandals
Der Spiegel has a long tradition of investigation, in particular on the political m?urs, and calls itself Sturmgeschütz der Demokratie (the rifle of attack of the democracy). At the beginning of the Fifties, following a charge of Spiegel, the German federal Parliament sees constrained throw an investigation into the corruption of members of the Parliament at the time of the choice of (preferably with ) like sits of the German federal government.

In the writer Hans Magnus Enzensberger publish its test " Die Sprache of Spiegels » (The language of Spiegel) in which he criticizes what he names one " pretended objectivity ». Wolf Schneider, one eminent journalist and linguist uses the quotations of the magazine as example of bad German style.
To counter this image, DER Spiegel recently joined the rows of the guards of language with the heading " Zwiebelfisch "of its Web site. This heading even generated a best-seller in bookshop.
Some criticize, in particular the biographer of Augstein and the writer Otto Köhler, old feather of the magazine, also reported bonds between Spiegel and of old (of former officers in particular).
