• 皇宮警察特別警備隊（特備隊）

  皇宮警察の皇宮護衛官で編成される機動隊。３個小隊編成の１個中隊から成り、隊員はおよそ100名。

  基幹隊員と教導隊員に分かれ、基幹隊員に任命されるのは皇宮警察学校出たての新任護衛官、教導隊員に任命されるのは実務歴１年以上３年未満の護衛官。小隊の下にある各分隊は基幹隊員・教導隊員の混合編成であり、先輩格の教導隊員が分隊内の基幹隊員を指導するような形になっている。

  現在、同隊は皇居内にある皇宮警察本部警備部警備第二課に置かれている。護衛官によって編成される唯一の集団警備部隊として非常時の警備を実施、また隊内に儀仗隊を置き、護衛部と協力して儀衛も行う。外国大使・公使の儀衛の他、皇族の葬儀の際には正装して出棺の列の護衛を実施。

  特別警備隊員は、通常の護衛官業務と警備隊業務を兼務し、通常業務のない勤務日に警備隊員として勤務する。なお、警備隊配属が決まった護衛官は警視庁第一機動隊に派遣され研修を受ける。

• 海上保安庁特別警備隊（特警隊）

  海上保安庁が全国の主要海上保安部の警備実施強化巡視船に配置している部隊。都道府県警察の機動隊とも合同訓練を行なっている。所属管区に関係なく 全国的に活動。対テロ事案の際は特殊警備隊（SST）が到着するまでは初動措置を実施する。

  • 主要任務

    港湾施設の警備や海上デモの規制（どこかの港で大規模な海上デモが予定されているときは、 全国の警備実施強化巡視船を集結させる。そして、この機動隊が当該地区の小型艇（PC型とかCL型とか呼ばれる巡視艇）に乗り換えて、デモなどに対する警備実施を行なう）。

    特別警備隊の下に２個の機動隊（小隊編制）が置かれている。

警察機動隊の編成

1. 連隊 : 連隊長（概ね警視正）及び3個大隊。
2. 大隊 : 大隊長（概ね警視）及び3個中隊。
3. 中隊 : 中隊長（警部）及び3個小隊。
4. 小隊 : 小隊長（警部補）及び3個分隊。
5. 分隊 : 分隊長（巡査部長）及び分隊員（巡査長・巡査）の合計11名。
6. 伝令 : 伝令長（警部補）以下伝令。

装備

個人装備

機動隊に特徴的な装備は次の通りである。

• 出動服

  青色。防水難燃加工されている。上衣は下衣の上に出す。

• 出動靴

  半長靴

• 防護装備

  旧式では、脛当・篭手・防護衣。新式では、防護ベスト（背中に「POLICE」と白抜きで入る）。関節部分等にはプロテクターを着ける。

• マフラー

  襟元を守る役割と、包帯代わりの役割とがある。

• ヘルメット

  ポリカボネード製。旧式では、青色で、顔面保護用のバイザーは外装、また頚椎保護用の垂れが付いている。新式では、黒色で、バイザーは内装、また頚椎保護用の垂れが付いている。

• 盾

  防護用装備。旧式は、ジュラルミン製の大盾。新型では、強化プラスチック製。

車両

• 輸送車

  バス・マイクロバス型。窓には投石防止用の金網がある。

• 警備車

  装甲を付した車両。旧型は放水銃をつけていたが、新型は銃眼のみ。

• 指揮官車

  四輪駆動車が多い。

• 遊撃車

  マイクロバス・ワゴン車型。

• 放水車

  輸送車に放水銃をつけた型や、消防車型、小型（遊撃放水車）がある。
