Special education
For children who ordinary cannot follow because of leathers - or behaviour problems, because of physical, sensual or intellectual handicaps or behaviour impairments are there in the Netherlands three types education where they are possible rightly. This is it special primary education (SBO) or it special education (SO) and later it continued special education (VSO). This corresponds to what in Flanders it extraordinary education mentioned becomes. Beside special education exists also including education, where children with a handicap remain in the ordinary school but extra are supported.
Special primary education (SBO)
To the schools for children with leathers - and behaviour problems had been subdivided in three groups:
- Children with leathers - and education difficulties (LOM)
- Learned with difficulty children (MLK)
- In their development threatened small children (IOBK)
Nowadays is there no longer spoken concerning the above classification. In general it is said commonly, that children with a relative low or low intelligence level and children who have a learning delay, go to the SBO. These groups children fall under the law on the primary education (WPO), which the legislation for regularly and special primary education treats.
Children on these sbo-scholen serve after leave of this school the same basic knowledge to have obtained then children who have sat on an ordinary primary school, but they can do about that longer. Can lead up to 14 years.
Special education
For students who are physical, sensual or rationally disabled, there is the special education. These schools are there in four categories (memoranda):
- Memorandum 1: visual disabled children or plural disabled children with a visual handicap
- Memorandum 2: deaf or hearing impaired children (to see also schoolschool school), children with major speech difficulties or plural disabled children who have one of these handicaps
- Memorandum 3: physical disabled children, learned very with difficulty children (ZMLK) and long-term sick children with a physical handicap, or plural disabled children who have one of these handicaps
- Memorandum 4: opvoedbare very with difficulty children (ZMOK), long-term sick children differently than linked with a physical handicap and children in schools to pedologische institutes
For these children special education it has been also continued there. This can be followed up to twintigste the year.
